24.03.2024: A look at our event

We are fast approaching our big event to celebrate the 30th anniversary of our sponsoring association Dampflokfreunde Salzwedel e.V. in the Historic Engine Shed in Wittenberge. Today we have started the concrete preparations, which should be visible to you, dear friends of the museum, as early as next Saturday. This is when our museum reopens to the public.
Today was all about shunting work, because we have to make room for our various guest vehicles. Today, our 50 3685 was shunted onto another track to free up its previous parking space.

In addition, we are working on the scoop par excellence. For example, in cooperation with our colleagues from other museum locations, we are planning to transfer some steam, diesel and electric locomotives to our event, which were typical of Wittenberge in the days of the German Reichsbahn. More details will be available here soon. Incidentally, the express steam locomotive 01 509 has already been confirmed.

All the vehicles will of course be duly presented at our event.

Two special trains are also planned to visit us. One will be the historic rail bus from Neustrelitz on Saturday, 4 May 2024, which we recommend as a tried-and-tested means of transport from Berlin.

Secondly, a special train is planned from Luckau, which will also be travelling on a historic Deutsche Reichsbahn rail bus.

Anyone who is still hesitating to consider a journey to Prignitz may be additionally motivated by the parallel event on the Pollo narrow-gauge railway between Lindenberg and Mesendorf. On the weekend of 4/5 May 2024, steam locomotive 99 608 will be running on the extremely scenic line. The locomotive normally runs in the Ore Mountains and will be travelling to Prignitz on a low-loader especially for the event. Incidentally, the starting point of the narrow-gauge railway in Mesendorf is only a 30-minute drive from Wittenberge.

As you can see, the Prignitz steam paradise is well worth a visit, especially on the first weekend in May. If you would like to stay overnight in the region, the internet portal of the Prignitz tourism association offers support.
