15.05.2018: Visit to Wittenberge
On may 12, 2018, our museum was paid a visit by a group some 70 strong from the BDEF (German Federal Association of Railway Enthusiasts). As is appropriate, the group travelled from Berlin in their own special train, which was hauled by a class 118 diesel locomotive. Unfortunately, the railway operating company responsible for the special train would not permit it to be stabled on the museum's premises and the loco to meet up with its sisters. However, that didn't spoil the atmosphere and the museum's diesel locos were ranged in front of the locoshed. As well as our main-line diesel locos of classes 118 and 114, we arranged our smaller locos in photogenic positions.
On may 13, we had a visit from a group of about 30 railway enthusiasts from Schleswig-Holstein, who enjoyed a guided tour of the museum's collection and the premises. The group followed their visit to us with a visit to the narrow-gauge "Pollo", the Prignitz Light Railway, some 35 km from Wittenberge. This preservation line celebrated its 25th anniversary at the weekend and marked the occasion by using steam traction. We are very pleased that these two tourist attractions complement each other so well, thus making a trip to the region well worth while.
