03.06.2023: Music to our ears

June 3, 2023 was a great day for us, because there were sounds in the air that had not been heard for a long time. This had the following background:
The refurbishment of further diesel locomotives was started. First of all, this includes our diesel locomotive 118 748. This machine was built in 1968 at Lokomotivbau Karl Marx in Babelsberg and was in service until May 2015, most recently in front of freight trains. It has two engines with 1,000 hp each and can travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.

Already some days ago the starter batteries were charged and new distilled water was added.

Today, the loco could do a little test run and immediately looked at her sister 118 692.

Here are some moving pictures of the test run in beautiful weather:

In addition, in the medium term, another locomotive is to be brought back to life, for which the fans have been waiting for a long time. This is 320 001, a large diesel locomotive built by Krauss-Maffei in Munich that was used as a prototype by the German Federal Railroad in the 1960s and 1970s. It was then used by various private railroads in Germany and Italy in freight service. Most recently, it served the H.F. Wiebe in construction train service. It has an output of 3,800 hp from two engines and was formerly capable of 160 km/h, latterly still 120 km/h. It is the largest diesel locomotive ever built in Germany.

In the meantime, the locomotive was inspected, its batteries charged and refueled.

Then the other operating fluids were checked and engine oil was added.

Today the engines could be tested for the first time.

Our Skl got new starter batteries and now starts again without any problems.

And behold, it runs!

By the way, the steam locomotive Emma was completed after it returned from transport to its job in Luckau (see last newsletter).

In addition, the steam valve on our steam locomotive 50 3570 was reinstalled, which had suffered damage during the locomotive's last run and has since been repaired by a specialist workshop.

For relaxation we had the music group "Blechgarage" as guests on Friday evening, who spoiled our guests and us with Dixieland music. There was a great atmosphere among our guests who enjoyed the group's performance in the open air. Thank you very much for your performance!
